It's often a head scratcher for many when we tell we live in small town in the middle of Kansas. And we can see what is going through their minds: what on earth do you find interesting there?
Well, just last week we had one of those interesting moments, those times when years of friendship and familiarity culminate in a special time that is both memorable and timeless. That's what happened when we had the opening of Don Weddle's show of new paintings at Studio Lindsborg. Several hundred people showed up to see their old friend and share, once again, in the richness of his art. But there was more than just art, there was also the great love everyone feels for Don.
And perhaps that came through most strongly when everyone gathered together for a group protrait, all these fans of Don holding of their "Don Weddle Fans." It was an hilarious moment, made possible by Jim Turner's idea of making a mask, getting an appropriate picture of Don (by subterfuge) and turning the Small World work crew (Kathy, Jan, Briana and Jim) to work on the task.
It fulfilled my introduction of Don that day: "If one Don Weddle is good, a lot of Don Weddles is better."
